The Sodalitium Christianae Vitae (SCV), a male congregation of pontifical right, was established in Lima, Peru, in 1971. With members recruited from the highest strata of society, the congregation began to lead a Reconciliation Theology in response to the rather progressive ideas of the Liberation Theology started in Latin America in the late 1960s. Known for its almost military discipline, by training its members as “soldiers of God”, within a few decades, it extended its presence beyond Peru to several countries across Latin America, the United States, and Italy.
Despite its significant expansion and reputation, for more than two decades the SCV faced persistent accusations of systematic physical, psychological, and sexual abuse perpetrated by its leadership between the 1970s and 2000s. These allegations were met with relentless attacks from the organisation on victims and journalists who sought to bring the offenders to justice.
On April 14th, 2025, the SCV was officially dissolved by pontifical decree.
Reworks in progress.
