The Sodalitium Christiana Vitae was founded in 1971 in Lima, Peru, with the intention to lead a "Theology of Reconciliation" as a response to the growing Liberation Theology. For this purpose, young men from the highest strata of Peru were recruited and instructed as "Soldiers of God," which in a few decades led to the elevation of what was once an association of believers to the status of a Congregation of Pontifical Right.

Today, the Sodalitium has spread to several countries in Latin America, as well as to the United States and Europe, and has an immense capital through subsidiaries founded by senior members. Nevertheless, for two decades this community has been accompanied by scandals not only because of dubious business dealings, but especially accusations of several cases of physical, psychological and even some of sexual abuse. To date, this remains as the most complex and largest abuse case in the Peruvian Church.
